I-MASTER
Integration of advanced high-precision GNSS/PNT positioning technologies (RTK, PPP-RTK), signal integrity monitoring systems, advanced sensors (e.g., LiDAR), data fusion algorithms, and artificial intelligence for vehicle control, communication infrastructure, and reference GNSS networks. The system also includes integrity monitoring (RAIM) techniques and interoperability with terrestrial GNSS networks, supporting safe and reliable maritime operations.
The project fits into the field of autonomous and intelligent maritime navigation, with applications in the naval, shipbuilding, aerospace, telecommunications, and maritime security domains, contributing to the development of international standards and the certification of MASS systems.
OVERVIEW
I-MASTER (Italian Maritime Autonomous Surface ships TEst Range) involves the design and construction of a national test range at Lake Nemi for the testing and validation of technologies, systems, and procedures for autonomous maritime navigation (MASS). The platform will allow testing of vessels and components in controlled scenarios, integrating artificial intelligence and data fusion systems for autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance. The test range will be equipped with a modular “plug & play” infrastructure that will allow users to replace and validate individual subsystems (e.g., sensors, algorithms, PNT equipment), ensuring flexibility and repeatability of the tests.
